DONA International Certification
How to get started
DONA International has the highest certification standards for doulas worldwide. When a doula proudly adds the letters CD(DONA) or PCD(DONA) after her name, it shows the world she has met all the requirements of our rigorous certification program.
Achieving certification is a process that requires considerable time and effort. Before beginning the certification process, we recommend that you learn about what it means to be a DONA International doula by browsing the DONA International website, reading our position papers, Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics, and other DONA International literature you will find on our website. Find DONA International certified doulas in your area through our doula locator and talk with them about their experiences as a doula or join in a discussion on Doula Talk to ask what being a certified doula is really like. Then decide for yourself if you have got what it takes to make a commitment to serving mothers, newborns and families as a DONA International doula.
Whether you want to be certified as a birth doula or a postpartum doula, follow this three-step process to get started:
- Make sure you are a current member of DONA International. Join today.
- Find a doula workshop and get started
- Purchase a birth or postpartum Certification Packet in the DONA Boutique. You will have two years from the date stamped on your certification packet to complete the certification process
.
Note: You can pursue certification as a birth doula, a postpartum doula or both. You do not have to be certified in any particular order and you can pursue both certifications simultaneously. After you are a certified doula your contact information will be on our web site if you desire.
