Toni Curtis

Director of Advocacy

A member of DONA International for the past three years, Toni Curt currently serves as the DEI subcommittee chairperson for Black Mother and Baby and the DEI IMPACT chairperson for the organization. She is also an active participant in the North Carolina Doula Action Team, collaborating with the North Carolina Institute of Medicine and DHHS to enhance the
accessibility of doula services through key recommendations on credentialing, Medicaid
reimbursement, and the scope of services from preconception to postpartum.
In addition, Toni Curtis collaborates with the National Birth Coalition and the Think Babies
initiative, which advocates for prioritizing the needs of infants, toddlers, and their families. This
initiative focuses on quality, affordable child care, parental bonding time, healthy emotional
development, and strong physical health and nutrition. Through various advocacy efforts,
including events like Strolling ThunderTM and policy forums, Toni Curtis helps raise
awareness among policymakers about the critical needs of young children and their families.

With a BSBA from Sullivan University and training in conflict resolution and diversity, equity, and
inclusion, she has collaborated with tech startups and C-level executives to create impactful
partnerships.Toni’s dedication to maternal health continues to drive her efforts in advocating for
equitable care and empowering the doula profession.
